Acara Solutions, An Aleron Company is seeking a Purchasing Specialist to collaborate with our esteemed partner in the defense manufacturing sector.

What We Offer:

Compensation: $35/hr

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7 AM - 4:30 PM, 9/80 schedule

Contract Duration: 6 months with potential for extension

Key Responsibilities:

The Purchasing Specialist will be tasked with acquiring materials, components, and equipment within a Department of Defense (DOD) framework, necessitating a solid grasp of the FAR/DFARs. Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting and evaluating quotations, assessing bids, and making award decisions.
  • Determining material needs based on engineering and production timelines while ensuring inventory levels are maintained.
  • Planning, scheduling, and overseeing the flow of materials throughout the production process.
  • Assessing vendor reliability and identifying new supply sources when existing vendors are insufficient.
  • Monitoring costs, schedules, and scopes of assigned subcontracts to ensure optimal quality and value.
  • Assisting engineering teams in developing new specifications for contract orders as necessary.

Additional Duties:

  • Reviewing requisitions, purchase orders, and vouchers for compliance with established guidelines.
  • Securing both oral and written quotations from vendors, documenting competitive bidding processes.
  • Expediting purchase orders and keeping departments informed about expected delivery dates while following up on back orders.
  • Maintaining precise vendor and departmental records.
  • Utilizing various vendor sources to fulfill orders as directed.
  • Identifying alternative vendors or supplies to mitigate material shortages and stock outages.
  • Engaging with vendors to establish relationships and evaluating their proposals for further consideration.
  • Ensuring an organized and up-to-date filing system for pricing and vendor information for immediate access.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of purchasing experience in the aerospace, defense, or manufacturing sectors.
  • A minimum of 3 years of overall purchasing experience.
  • Proficiency in word processing, order and inventory forms, and spreadsheets.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with BaaN MRP is advantageous.
