The Dallas County Juvenile Residential Officer provides direct supervision to youths in a 24-hour residential facility, ensuring their health, safety, and welfare. This role requires effective communication, counseling, and crisis management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision to youths in a 24-hour residential facility
  • Ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures, as well as applicable standards
  • Provides individual and group counseling to promote personal awareness and responsibility
  • Makes critical judgments and decisions during crisis situations
  • Disciplines youths by enforcing facility rules and documents behavior
  • Restrains, chases, and transports unruly youths
  • Conducts inspections, rounds, and drills, including room checks and physical searches
  • Coordinates and provides daily educational and entertaining program activities

Requirements

  • Education and experience equivalent to an Associate's degree in Criminology, Corrections, Counseling, Law, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Business Management, Public Administration, Education, or a related field
  • One year of work-related experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate and establish working relationships
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 90 days of hire
  • Must be certified as required by applicable standards
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation
  • Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and random testing during employment
