Job Summary
The Dallas County Juvenile Residential Officer provides direct supervision to youths in a 24-hour residential facility, ensuring their health, safety, and welfare. This role requires effective communication, counseling, and crisis management skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides direct supervision to youths in a 24-hour residential facility
- Ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures, as well as applicable standards
- Provides individual and group counseling to promote personal awareness and responsibility
- Makes critical judgments and decisions during crisis situations
- Disciplines youths by enforcing facility rules and documents behavior
- Restrains, chases, and transports unruly youths
- Conducts inspections, rounds, and drills, including room checks and physical searches
- Coordinates and provides daily educational and entertaining program activities
Requirements
- Education and experience equivalent to an Associate's degree in Criminology, Corrections, Counseling, Law, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Business Management, Public Administration, Education, or a related field
- One year of work-related experience
- Ability to effectively communicate and establish working relationships
- Must obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 90 days of hire
- Must be certified as required by applicable standards
- Must possess a valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record
- Must pass an extensive background investigation
- Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and random testing during employment
