A Commercial Portfolio Manager is a detail-oriented, analytical, and collaborative professional with strong communication abilities. This role involves conducting thorough evaluations of commercial loan applications and providing informed recommendations based on these assessments. The Portfolio Manager plays a crucial role within the relationship deal team, ensuring effective teamwork and collaboration. Key responsibilities include:

  • Loan Structuring and Analysis: Collaborate with relationship managers to lead the structuring, underwriting, and assessment of commercial loan applications. Prepare comprehensive credit approval documents, present findings to the credit team and senior management, and facilitate the closing of intricate commercial loans.
  • Credit Quality Oversight: Monitor the credit health of the assigned portfolio by regularly reviewing financial trends, compliance with covenants, and borrowing bases. This includes preparing annual reviews or more frequent assessments as necessary, as well as managing delinquencies and collateral discrepancies.
  • Client Relationship Management: Serve as a key point of contact in managing client relationships alongside the deal team, ensuring effective communication and service delivery.
  • Mentorship and Training: Provide guidance, training, and development opportunities for junior team members, fostering a culture of learning and growth.
  • Industry Knowledge: Stay informed about various commercial products available to clients and keep abreast of market and industry trends.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or a related discipline is required.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills are essential for facilitating smooth loan closings and effective portfolio management.

Experience Levels:

Portfolio Manager I:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, with potential for less based on management assessment.
  • Handles transactions and relationships of lower complexity.

Portfolio Manager II:

  • 5-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Manages transactions and relationships of moderate complexity.

Senior Portfolio Manager:

  • 8-12 years of relevant experience.
  • Responsible for high-complexity transactions and relationships.
  • Experience mentoring and developing less experienced team members.

Senior Portfolio Manager 2:

  • 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Handles the most complex transactions and relationships.
  • Expertise in mentoring and developing junior team members, with strong interpersonal skills necessary for recommending loan transactions to senior management.
