Job Summary

Flagstar Bank is seeking a highly skilled Commercial Portfolio Manager to join our team. As a key player in the relationship deal team, this individual will be responsible for managing the credit quality of a loan portfolio, underwriting and analyzing commercial loan requests, and closing complex loans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Portfolio Management: Monitor the credit quality of assigned portfolios by evaluating financial trends, covenant compliance, and borrowing bases. Prepare annual reviews and manage delinquencies and collateral exceptions.
  • Loan Underwriting: Work with relationship managers to structure, underwrite, and analyze commercial loan requests. Prepare credit approval packages and present recommendations to the credit team and senior management.
  • Relationship Management: Manage client relationships and work with the deal team to ensure smooth loan closings and daily portfolio management.
  • Training and Development: Mentor and train junior team members to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Market Knowledge: Stay up-to-date on commercial products and general market trends.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Experience Levels

The complexity of transactions and years of experience differentiate the levels:

Portfolio Manager I
  • 3-5 years of experience.
  • Handles transactions and relationships with the lowest level of complexity.
Portfolio Manager II
  • 5-8 years of experience.
  • Handles transactions and relationships with a moderate level of complexity.
Senior Portfolio Manager
  • 8-12 years of experience.
  • Handles transactions and relationships with a high level of complexity.
  • Experience working with less experienced team members to mentor and develop them.
Senior Portfolio Manager 2
  • 12+ years of experience.
  • Handles transactions and relationships with the highest level of complexity.
  • Experience working with less experienced team members to mentor and develop them.
  • High-level oral and written interpersonal skills required to recommend loan transactions to bank senior management.
