Senior Cost Estimator in Renewable Energy

Compensation: $150,000 - $175,000 + Bonus, ESOP

Position Overview:

Piper Maddox is proud to collaborate with a premier Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firm that is at the forefront of the solar sector. This esteemed organization has recently secured significant solar initiatives, reinforcing its position among the top 50 Solar EPCs in the United States. With an impressive portfolio encompassing over 55 solar projects totaling 4.5GW, they are committed to advancing the renewable energy landscape.

Role Summary: We are in search of a proficient Senior Cost Estimator to enhance the effectiveness of our client's solar initiatives. This pivotal role is essential for guaranteeing project success through detailed analysis, strategic foresight, and leadership. Candidates with a robust background in construction cost estimation and a dedication to solar energy are encouraged to consider this opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contract Review: Conduct thorough evaluations of contract documents, including isometric, as-built, and engineering drawings, to ascertain project requirements such as bonding and insurance.
  • Project Scheduling: Formulate and oversee critical path schedules with key milestones and completion timelines to ensure projects are delivered on time.
  • Cost Analysis: Execute detailed quantity take-offs for labor, equipment, and materials. Assess pricing and bid validity, addressing price fluctuations and project necessities.
  • Bid Oversight: Direct the pricing for general expenses and project-specific needs. Manage the final bid submission and tender documentation process.
  • Risk Assessment: Perform risk and opportunity evaluations, collaborating with the chief estimator to incorporate findings into the risk register.
  • Collaboration: Liaise with external consultants and project management teams to estimate budget requirements and oversee the tender development process.
  • Data Analysis: Assist in reviewing historical data and benchmarks to refine cost estimates.
  • Client Engagement: Monitor client-specific success metrics and provide solutions to achieve business and revenue objectives.
  • Team Management: Hold team members accountable, foster innovative problem-solving, and advise on strategic pursuit initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent trade experience.
  • Experience: 12 years in construction cost estimation with a preference for 12 months of onsite experience. Proven track record leading pursuits valued up to $250 million across various delivery models.
  • Expertise: Comprehensive understanding of bid preparation principles, including quantity take-off procedures, contractor procurement, and pricing strategies. Proficient in contract terms and risk identification.
  • Construction Acumen: Familiarity with diverse construction methodologies, planning, scheduling, and potential challenges. Experience with self-perform estimates and productivity assessments.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to lead and inspire a team of estimators. Strong organizational and multitasking capabilities.
  • Relationship Management: Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain productive relationships with clients, colleagues, and industry stakeholders.
