Position Overview

As a Lead Estimator at Primoris Renewable Energy, you will play a pivotal role in the estimation of projects, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills to guide the estimating process effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee project estimations while collaborating closely with the Estimating Manager.
  • Prepare for estimations by collecting relevant proposals, drawings, specifications, and associated documents.
  • Assess labor, material, and time requirements through detailed analysis of project documentation.
  • Conduct estimating takeoffs in partnership with Engineering and CAD teams.
  • Evaluate regional labor rates and per diem costs to inform estimates.
  • Source quotations from vendors and subcontractors for materials and services not performed in-house.
  • Engage with engineers, vendors, and subcontractors to explore Value Engineering opportunities that enhance project design and cost-effectiveness.
  • Facilitate risk assessments and develop a risk register in collaboration with the lead estimator, identifying mitigation strategies for potential risks.
Technical Leadership
  • Guide technology selection in partnership with engineering experts.
  • Develop and review project schedules, incorporating feedback from Project Engineering and Procurement regarding material lead times and design durations.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of company unit costs, operational efficiencies, and business processes.
  • Independently resolve most issues with minimal support from the Estimating Manager.
  • Travel to project sites to gain insights into construction sequences, methodologies, and site conditions.
  • Enhance technical knowledge through workshops, technical publications, site visits, and internal cost report reviews.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively, managing assignments from Estimating Managers and delegating tasks to Junior Estimators.
  • Mentor Junior Estimators to foster their professional development.
Qualifications
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a business or engineering discipline.
  • Experience in Solar, Renewable Energy, or Power Generation is highly valued.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in estimating solar construction projects.
  • Comprehensive understanding of estimating principles.
  • Proficient in personal computer applications, particularly MS Office.
  • Familiarity with estimating software (B2W or WinEst preferred).
  • Strong written communication skills, capable of producing both basic and complex technical documents.
  • Effective oral communication skills, with the ability to present to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management abilities.
  • General knowledge of Fixed Price, Time & Materials, Cost Plus, and Unit contract pricing structures.
