Job OverviewPosition Summary

X-energy is in search of an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to oversee the design and implementation of I&C systems for a nuclear fuel production facility throughout all stages of development, from initial concept to final execution. This role encompasses detailed design, analysis, testing, procurement, construction, and commissioning. The engineer will be tasked with documenting and managing technical, licensing, and programmatic requirements and configurations of the system at all levels.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design I&C systems for process operations, including controls, instrumentation, data acquisition, automation, and connectivity.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and system engineers on detailed design development.
  • Assist in creating process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Engage with architectural and engineering firms to facilitate I&C system development.
  • Draft functional requirements and procurement specifications for I&C systems.
  • Oversee process instrumentation design and procurement.
  • Enhance control systems for various equipment to optimize plant functionality.
  • Develop control logic narratives, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Create wiring and interconnect cabling diagrams.
  • Supervise the development of human-machine interface (HMI) screens.
  • Establish specifications for PLC or DCS systems and develop control logic code.
  • Document I&C system hardware specifications, including requirements and architecture.
  • Formulate troubleshooting plans and failure mode analysis to support design evaluations.
  • Prepare factory acceptance testing procedures.
  • Write guidelines for instrument calibration and testing.
  • Develop a comprehensive instrument calibration and testing program.
  • Participate in system Process Hazards Analysis.
  • Collaborate with various teams to resolve I&C design challenges.
  • Mentor junior instrumentation and controls engineers.
  • Lead internal and customer design review presentations.
  • Review design change packages and calculations per company policies.
  • Assist project management in creating detailed schedules for I&C design tasks.
  • Manage system engineering processes including configuration and requirements management.
  • Support procurement activities related to I&C systems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in I&C system development.
  • Experience with nuclear instrumentation and control systems is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering principles is preferred.
