About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to be part of our Network Solutions division, focusing on manufacturing operations. For over a century, Leviton has been committed to providing innovative, reliable products that adapt to a rapidly evolving environment. This position offers the chance to engage with the Network Solutions Business Unit of Leviton Manufacturing Company Inc.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Controls Engineer will play a crucial role in the design and upkeep of sophisticated electrical systems and programming essential for the effective operation of manufacturing machinery. This includes documenting, developing, implementing, and maintaining equipment and machines for product production, validation, and inspection. The role requires minimal supervision and may involve mentoring and training less experienced staff.

  • Collaborate with senior engineers or managers to design electrical systems for manufacturing equipment.
  • Create programs for PLCs, HMIs, actuators, servos, motion controllers, and vision systems.
  • Organize equipment development using project timelines and spreadsheets for component ordering and fabrication.
  • Develop functional flow charts to aid in machine programming and troubleshooting.
  • Document electrical systems and programs in compliance with safety standards and quality procedures.
  • Specify and procure electrical components necessary for equipment operation.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair machinery to support production and engineering teams.
  • Assemble, wire, program, install, and debug both purchased and internally developed equipment.
  • Create operating manuals for both internally developed and purchased machinery.
  • Guide and mentor junior personnel to enhance their skills and capabilities.
Qualifications
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems and processes.
  • Proficient in developing machine programs and documentation using various programming languages, including PLCs and vision systems.
  • Strong understanding of discrete logic and electronics, particularly in-line test equipment.
  • Experience in implementing and troubleshooting industrial communication networks such as Ethernet/IP and Profinet.
  • Ability to formulate complex electrical specifications, including schematics and wiring guidelines.
  • Capable of organizing code revisions and documentation effectively.
  • Experience in supervising assembly and wiring tasks.
  • Familiarity with CAD or Visio for documentation purposes.
  • Ability to integrate multiple equipment into cohesive systems.
  • Exposure to a variety of production machinery and industrial sensors.
  • Experience in debugging and troubleshooting electrical issues in automated equipment.
  • Understanding of electrical codes and practices.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including NEC and UL508 standards.
  • Proficient in using mechanical and electrical tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Automation, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, including:
    • Development and maintenance of manufacturing machinery.
    • Programming experience with PLCs, HMIs, and process controls.
