Position Overview

Role: Medical Assistant/Secretary - NHMP Norwalk Rheumatology

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Qualifications: Candidates must possess experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician.

Job Summary: This role involves providing both clinical and administrative support to ensure efficient daily operations within the medical practice. The Medical Assistant is responsible for preparing the patient and examination area for visits.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Welcome patients and escort them from the waiting area to the clinical space, performing necessary intake procedures and documenting vital signs, current medications, and allergies.
  2. Update and transcribe patient information accurately in the medical records, including demographic and medical history as provided by the patient.
  3. Handle clerical tasks related to patient care, such as organizing patient charts and completing necessary paperwork.
  4. Maintain compliance with the EMR Orders Reconciliation process as required.
  5. Ensure cleanliness and proper stocking of the examination area after each patient visit, conducting regular environmental checks.
  6. Prepare patients for their appointments by providing gowns, clinical paperwork, and educational materials as needed.
  7. Assist in conducting in-office tests as directed by the healthcare provider and coordinate with external services when necessary.
  8. Collect and process specimens as instructed, ensuring accurate logging of results in the patient’s record.
  9. Manage inventory and upkeep of medical equipment and supplies, maintaining appropriate logs.
  10. Provide training and guidance to new colleagues regarding office procedures and techniques.
  11. Conduct audits related to pathology and other assigned tasks.
  12. Demonstrate competencies in in-office surgical procedures, including setup and patient preparation under RN supervision.
  13. Engage with patients and team members following service excellence standards.
  14. Adhere to all compliance responsibilities associated with the role.
  15. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Essential Requirements:

High School diploma or GED is required. Candidates should be recent graduates of a Medical Assistant program, Nursing Assistant training, or possess EMT certification, or have three years of relevant experience in a medical office. A foundational understanding of medical terminology and the ability to accurately obtain patient vital signs is essential. Preferred qualifications include CPR certification and bilingual capabilities.

Compensation: Salary range is $29.51 per hour, based on relevant experience.
