Job Summary:

NV5, a leading provider of engineering and consulting services, is seeking a highly skilled Survey Crew Chief to lead our land surveying team. As a critical member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of survey data for various projects, including construction, land development, infrastructure planning, and environmental assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Lead and supervise a team of survey technicians and assistants in the field, ensuring efficient and accurate data collection.
    • Assign tasks to team members, provide guidance, and oversee their work.
  • Field Operations:
    • Operate and maintain surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors.
    • Perform measurements and data collection for various survey types, such as boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking.
  • Boundary Determination:
    • Research and review land records, legal documents, and historical survey data to determine property boundaries.
    • Establish boundary markers and reference points using precise surveying techniques.
  • Control Networks:
    • Set up and maintain control points and benchmarks for survey projects.
    • Conduct traverse surveys and establish control networks to ensure accurate data.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure that the surveying team follows safety protocols and practices in the field.
    • Stay informed about local, state, and federal regulations related to land surveying and land use.
  • Data Processing:
    • Transfer collected field data to computer systems for further analysis and reporting.
    • Assist in the preparation of survey reports, maps, and legal descriptions.
  • Client and Stakeholder Communication:
    • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements and objectives.
    • Provide regular progress updates and communicate any issues encountered in the field.
  • Quality Control:
    • Ensure that survey data meets project specifications and quality standards.
    • Perform quality control checks on collected data and survey documentation.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field is preferred, but relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) is desirable.
  • Proven experience as a Survey Crew Chief or a similar role in the land surveying industry.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining surveying equipment and software.
  • Strong knowledge of surveying techniques, including boundary determination and topographic mapping.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills for working with team members and clients.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the field.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Valid CA Drivers License in good standing.
