Job Overview

The Governor's Office of Planning & Research (OPR) is seeking to fill a limited-term Associate Planner position within the Planning and Research Branch. This role is designed for a 12-month period, with the possibility of extension up to 24 months and potential for permanent placement. Under the supervision of the Planning and Land Use Manager, the Associate Planner will assist with various tasks related to research, policy formulation, and data analysis, contributing to planning guidance and technical advisories across a diverse range of topics impacting planning and climate initiatives.

This role involves collaboration with other governmental entities, academic institutions, and stakeholders regarding research, programs, and policies related to land use, housing, climate resilience, conservation, open space planning, and transportation.

This position supports telework arrangements in accordance with the OPR Telework Policy.

Desirable Skills

In addition to assessing each candidate's qualifications based on their experience, the following factors will be considered for competitive evaluation:

  • Knowledge of urban planning principles, zoning/land use regulations, transportation systems, environmental assessments, housing policies, urban design, climate change, and conservation.
  • Familiarity with statistical and research methodologies relevant to specialty areas.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
  • Proficiency in graphic presentation techniques and project management principles.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to:

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret complex data.
  • Evaluate information from diverse sources and make informed recommendations.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and deliver presentations in meetings and workshops.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Build consensus among diverse groups and convey technical information to a general audience.

Experience with tools such as Excel, Asana, Adobe Creative Suite, and GIS is preferred but not mandatory.
