Position: Education Coordinator

Classification: Part-time, 25 hours/week

Reports to: Program Director

Primary Function:

The Education Coordinator, under the guidance of the Program Director, will design and facilitate educational enhancement initiatives within a supportive and trauma-informed framework. This role encompasses a variety of activities aimed at providing tutoring and academic assistance for youth and adolescents aged 6-18.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design, execute, and evaluate programs that promote academic achievement in subjects such as mathematics and language arts.
  2. Create tailored instructional materials and resources that cater to the diverse needs of participants, considering their age, gender, and cultural backgrounds.
  3. Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to foster educational growth and awareness of new initiatives.
  4. Encourage and enhance participation in educational programs among members.
  5. Provide mentorship and serve as a positive role model for participants.
  6. Exhibit leadership to ensure the safety, conduct, and development of all members.
  7. Continuously monitor and assess programs, services, and activities to maintain safety and quality standards.
  8. Implement evaluation methods through member feedback, observational assessments, surveys, and reflective practices.
  9. Maintain accurate records and reports detailing activities, participation statistics, notable achievements, and any challenges encountered.
  10. Foster collaborative relationships with staff and parents to enhance program effectiveness.
  11. Oversee and guide Teen Volunteers to ensure a productive environment.
  12. Ensure a safe and effective working atmosphere.
  13. Communicate regularly with the Program Director and staff regarding scheduling, program requirements, and objectives.
  14. Participate in special events, programs, meetings, and training sessions.

  • Demonstrate a passion for working with children.
  • Experience in guiding youth through activities that align with their interests and curiosities.
  • Possess knowledge in subjects such as mathematics, language arts, social studies, humanities, and science.
  • Exhibit resourcefulness and creativity in utilizing materials and resources.
  • Work effectively with volunteers, parents, educational officials, and community members.
  • Show self-motivation, industriousness, and confidence in taking initiative.
  • Communicate effectively and kindly with colleagues, parents, and children.
  • Commit to social justice and culturally responsive teaching practices.
  • Represent the organization positively within the community.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with youth.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook Mail, and Outlook Calendar.
  • Strong understanding and experience in literacy and mathematics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must pass a DOJ fingerprint clearance and criminal background check.
