DelDOT is Offering Recruitment Incentives for Engineers

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) values its engineering professionals as essential contributors to the safety, reliability, and sustainability of the State's infrastructure. To acknowledge this, we are introducing financial recruitment incentives for new engineers joining our team in accordance with our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.

The incentive program includes:

Recruitment Bonus – Bonuses are determined by the position classification:

$4,000 for Engineer I $5,000 for Engineer II $6,000 for Engineer III $7,000 for Engineer IV

Bonuses will be disbursed three months after the start date of employment. New hires accepting this recruitment incentive must commit to two consecutive years of employment within the Engineer I-IV series. Candidates must be new to the State of Delaware or transitioning to the Engineer classification series within the State.

Position Summary

This role is accountable for overseeing and managing designated projects and programs, ensuring that all technical decisions made within the department are sound and implemented effectively.

Key Responsibilities

The following functions are essential and common across all positions in this classification series, and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties:

Develops, drafts, and revises engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
Evaluates permit applications, blueprints, and designs prepared by others to ensure adherence to specifications and regulations.
Utilizes scientific and mathematical principles to research and devise solutions to technical challenges.
Conducts field studies, surveys, research, and development projects, inspections, and investigations to gather data and ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
Tests or assesses materials, equipment, systems, and facilities.
Plans and coordinates engineering initiatives.
Reviews, analyzes, and reports on project statuses and regulatory compliance.
Develops cost estimates for project timelines and materials.
Provides technical direction and training to technical personnel.

Job Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS for Engineer Program Manager I (Department of Transportation Only)

Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

A valid Delaware Professional Engineering License OR a valid Professional Engineering license issued by an appropriate authority in the United States or Canada.
At least six months of experience as a project engineer in one or more of the following engineering disciplines, including managing engineering programs and projects:
• Chemical Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Civil Engineering
• Construction Engineering
• Environmental Engineering
• Industrial Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Agricultural Engineering
Knowledge of staff supervision gained through coursework, training, or experience in overseeing the work of others, which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating tasks.

Employment Conditions

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The State of Delaware participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with the necessary information to confirm work authorization in the U.S.
