DelDOT is Offering Recruitment Incentives for Engineers
The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) acknowledges that its engineering professionals are an essential asset, playing a vital role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and sustainability of the State's infrastructure. To attract new talent, we are pleased to announce financial recruitment incentives for new engineers in accordance with our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.
The incentive program includes the following bonuses based on position classification:
- $4,000 for Engineer I
- $5,000 for Engineer II
- $6,000 for Engineer III
- $7,000 for Engineer IV
These incentives will be disbursed three months after the start date of employment. New hires accepting this recruitment bonus must commit to two consecutive years of employment within the Engineer I-IV series. This offer is available to individuals who are new to the State of Delaware or transitioning into the Engineer classification series within the State.
Position Summary
This role within the Division of Planning, Development Coordination Section, entails responsibilities related to traffic engineering and the analysis of proposed development projects across the State of Delaware. The position will involve advising local land-use agencies regarding the anticipated transportation impacts of these projects and identifying necessary transportation infrastructure enhancements to address those impacts. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required.
Key Responsibilities
The essential functions listed below are core responsibilities common to all positions within this classification and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties:
- Develops and modifies engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
- Reviews permit applications, blueprints, and designs prepared by others to ensure adherence to specifications and regulations.
- Utilizes scientific and mathematical principles to research and devise solutions to technical challenges.
- Conducts field studies, surveys, and investigations to gather data and ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
- Tests or evaluates materials, systems, and facilities.
- Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
- Analyzes and reports on project status and regulatory compliance.
- Prepares cost estimates for project timelines and materials.
- Provides technical guidance and training to junior staff.
Qualifications for Engineer I
Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher (or an anticipated graduation date within 12 months) in one or more engineering disciplines listed below OR official notice of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination in one or more of the engineering disciplines listed below:
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Construction Engineering
- Environmental Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Agricultural Engineering
Conditions of Employment
