DelDOT is Introducing Recruitment Incentives for Engineers

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) acknowledges that its Engineers are a vital asset, playing an essential role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and sustainability of the State's infrastructure. To recognize this, we are offering financial recruitment incentives to new Engineers joining DelDOT as part of our Recruitment Program Policy and Procedures.

The incentive program includes the following:

Sign-On Bonus – Incentives vary based on the position classification:

$4,000 for Engineer I $5,000 for Engineer II $6,000 for Engineer III $7,000 for Engineer IV

Bonuses are disbursed three months after the start date of employment. New hires accepting this recruitment incentive must commit to two consecutive years of employment within the Engineer I-IV series. Candidates must be new to the State of Delaware or new to the Engineer classification series within the State.

Additional information will be provided during the hiring process. This program is managed by the Department of Transportation's Human Resources – Employment Services section and may be discontinued at any time without prior notice.

Position Summary

This role involves overseeing and managing assigned projects and programs, with accountability for the technical decisions made, accepted, and executed within the department.

Key Responsibilities

The following functions are essential and common to all positions in this classification and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties:

Develops, drafts, and modifies engineering designs, plans, and specifications.
Reviews permit applications, blueprints, and designs created by others to ensure adherence to specifications and regulations.
Utilizes principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and devise solutions to technical challenges.
Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections, and investigations to gather data and ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems, and facilities.
Plans and coordinates engineering projects.
Reviews, analyzes, and reports on project status and regulatory compliance.
Develops cost estimates for project timelines and materials.
Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.

Job Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS for Engineer Program Manager I (Department of Transportation Only)

Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

Possession of a valid Delaware Professional Engineering License OR a valid Professional Engineering license issued by an appropriate authority from a state, territory, or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, or a province or territory of Canada.

At least six months of experience as a project engineer in one or more of the following engineering disciplines, which includes managing engineering programs and projects:
•Chemical Engineering
•Electrical Engineering
•Civil Engineering
•Construction Engineering
•Environmental Engineering
•Industrial Engineering
•Mechanical Engineering
•Agricultural Engineering

Knowledge of staff supervision gained through coursework, academic training, employer-provided training, or experience as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR experience supervising staff, which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.

Employment Conditions

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The State of Delaware participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm your authorization to work in the U.S.
