Farmers Market Nutrition Incentives Program Manager (Full-time)

Role Summary

The Farmers Market Nutrition Incentives Program Manager plays a crucial role in GrowNYC's Food Access Initiatives (FAI) by ensuring that healthy, regional food is accessible to all New Yorkers. This position involves overseeing the promotion and acceptance of nutrition incentives such as SNAP/EBT, Health Bucks, and other related programs. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Food Access Initiatives and Partnerships, the manager will handle operations, logistics, and strategic expansion of nutrition benefits at GrowNYC's Food Access sites, with a strong emphasis on SNAP.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations and Administration

  • Manage the acceptance and processing of electronic payments and various market currencies at Greenmarket and Farmstand locations.
  • Coordinate with GrowNYC's EBT-SNAP processor to resolve technical issues and oversee software updates.
  • Supervise the Greenmarket Bucks program, including communication with buyers and generating redemption reports.
  • Act as the primary liaison for Greenmarket producers regarding nutrition benefit redemption and training.
  • Ensure compliance for producers accepting FAI currencies and liaise with relevant state and city departments.
  • Oversee the management and inventory of program equipment, including iPads and card readers.
  • Provide support to field staff and farmers during weekends for urgent issues.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for program operations.
  • Conduct evaluations and compile reports on program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director to set and monitor objectives for Food Access Initiatives.
  • Track all FAI currencies and manage redemption processes.

Communications and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with government agencies, community organizations, and private sector entities to enhance food access.
  • Coordinate nutrition education and related programming with external partners.
  • Facilitate SNAP screenings and nutrition education initiatives at Greenmarkets.
  • Work with the Advancement team to develop a communications strategy for the FAI program.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with program partners and local stakeholders.
  • Create promotional materials and training resources for GrowNYC staff and partners.

Staff Management

  • Supervise the FAI Operations Assistant and conduct regular performance check-ins.
  • Train and oversee Food Access field staff in program operations and equipment handling.
  • Update training materials and SOPs annually.
  • Document staff performance and collaborate on corrective actions as necessary.

Budget Management

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the FAI program budget.
  • Oversee grant reporting and invoicing for program activities.
  • Support revenue generation and grant writing efforts.

Qualifications:

  • At least three years of experience in project or program management, preferably in agriculture or nutrition.
  • Experience managing staff in a supervisory capacity.
  • Proven ability to create and manage substantial program budgets.
  • Strong partnership-building skills and experience in collaborative environments.
  • Knowledge of sustainable agriculture, food systems, and food justice.
  • Commitment to equity in food access.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with nutrition benefit programs such as SNAP and WIC.
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite; willingness to learn new software.
  • Comfortable using Apple devices and applications.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability to change.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires the ability to stand for extended periods outdoors and lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Schedule:

This is a full-time position with a standard workload of 35-40 hours per week, including occasional flexible hours.

Compensation:

The salary for this position ranges from $70,000 to $80,000 annually, with a comprehensive benefits package.
