Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Library Associate to join our team at the City of Cambridge Massachusetts. As a key member of our library staff, you will provide exceptional service to diverse patrons of all ages and perform a variety of duties in all areas of the library.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding customer service to patrons, responding to their needs and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform circulation duties, including checking out and returning materials, processing holds, and answering patron inquiries.
  • Develop and implement engaging programs and services for children, teens, and adults, including author talks, book clubs, and other events.
  • Provide readers' advisory services, making recommendations to patrons based on their interests and reading preferences.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as data entry, reporting, and budgeting.
  • Collaborate with other library staff to achieve departmental goals and objectives.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in library science or related field preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in library software and technology, including integrated library systems and online databases.
