Job Summary

The Eda Kuhn Loeb Music Library at Harvard University seeks a highly skilled and innovative professional to serve as the Music Librarian for Learning and Engagement. This is a key leadership position that will play a critical role in shaping the Music Library's strategic direction and vision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Instructional Services: Develop and implement comprehensive information literacy instruction programs for students, faculty, and researchers, ensuring alignment with Harvard University's academic goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with Faculty and Staff: Work closely with Music Department faculty and staff to integrate information literacy concepts and skills into undergraduate and graduate curricula, promoting a seamless learning experience.
  • Develop and Manage Resources: Create and maintain online research tools, guides, and tutorials to support users in finding relevant collections, services, and resources at the Music Library and across Harvard University.
  • Provide Reference and Research Services: Offer in-person and virtual reference and research consultation services, ensuring that users receive expert guidance and support in their research endeavors.
  • Manage Social Media and Outreach: Develop and implement social media strategies to promote Music Library collections and services, engage with users, and foster a sense of community.
  • Supervise and Mentor: Supervise student workers and temporary/project staff, providing guidance and support to ensure their success in their roles.
  • Stay Current and Engaged: Remain up-to-date on developments in the field, representing the Music Library at relevant professional and scholarly meetings and conferences, and contributing to the profession through research, presentations, publications, and participation in professional organizations.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Library and Information Science: From an ALA-accredited program, with a strong foundation in information literacy, instructional design, and collection development.
  • Music Degree or Equivalent Experience: Demonstrated expertise in music-related fields, with a strong understanding of music pedagogy and curriculum development.
  • Minimum Three Years of Experience: Proven track record of providing information literacy instruction, reference services, and collection development in an academic setting.
  • Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, students, and staff, to promote a culture of inclusivity and respect.
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment, with a strong understanding of the importance of antiracism and social justice in academic libraries.
