Library Services Associate

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under minimal supervision, deliver exceptional customer service to a diverse community of patrons of all ages while executing circulation, reader advisory, and administrative tasks across all library functions.
- Provide outstanding and engaging service to library visitors.
- Ensure the library environment remains organized and tidy; manage the processing of deliveries and the shelving of materials.
- Handle circulation tasks and manage patron accounts, including checkouts, check-ins, inquiries, reservations, renewals, fine assessments, and registrations.
- Assist patrons in finding books and information, and utilizing various technologies such as computers, e-readers, tablets, and scanners, while offering basic troubleshooting support.
- Oversee public areas of the library to maintain a welcoming atmosphere.
- Communicate library policies effectively and address patron concerns, referring to colleagues when necessary.
- Promote library services and participate in outreach and programming initiatives, including the setup and operation of audiovisual and STEAM equipment.
- Engage in training sessions and collaborative workgroups to plan and implement library projects and programs.
- Perform additional duties as required to support library operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of the library's mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in all work.
- Strong customer service orientation and dedication to public service.
- Able to work effectively with a diverse urban population.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with a positive demeanor.
- Sound judgment and problem-solving capabilities, especially in unexpected situations.
- Strong teamwork abilities, with flexibility to assist during scheduling emergencies.
- Familiarity with current technology and trends in the field.
- Proficient in operating computers, software, and library systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree or coursework beyond high school is preferred. Proficiency in a language other than English is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Must be able to operate standard office equipment, transport materials weighing over 100 pounds, carry baskets up to 30 pounds, maintain focus despite interruptions, and communicate effectively with colleagues and the public.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is conducted in various library settings, including public service desks and office areas. The environment may involve exposure to noise and interruptions typical of a vibrant urban library. Participation in ongoing educational programs is encouraged to stay updated on industry changes.
SCHEDULE: The work week consists of 30 hours, scheduled in alignment with the library's needs, which may include evenings and weekends.
