Job Summary

UPMC is seeking a part-time Patient Services Representative to join their team. In this role, you will work 20-24 hours per week, primarily supporting the office located on the UPMC Passavant campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with check-in and check-out processes, scheduling, and collecting payments.
  • Provide clear and understandable instructions to patients, ensuring they navigate the healthcare system effectively.
  • Perform administrative duties, including scanning medical records and faxing documents.
  • Guide patients through the use of self-arrival technology or check-in at the desk, depending on their preference.
  • Schedule or connect patients to resources for ancillary services at checkout.
  • Understand and apply the principles of service recovery to resolve issues that do not meet patient expectations.
  • Assist patients in understanding their financial responsibilities and connect them to advocacy resources as needed.
  • Obtain signatures from patients or family members for consent to treatment and financial responsibility, adhering to HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Verify insurance benefits with carriers using online systems or telephone inquiries.
  • Promote the MyUPMC patient portal and assist patients with registration when applicable.
  • Collect copayments and other patient payments at the point of service.
  • Provide a warm greeting to all patients.
  • Register patients in the Biometrics program and explain its benefits.
  • Confirm and update patient registration information at checkout.
  • Appropriately distribute and triage phone calls to other areas and clinical providers.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice at checkout.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Experience with personal computer-based applications, office equipment, and proficient typing skills preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a medical, billing, fiscal, or customer service function preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems preferred.
