As a Patient Services Representative at UPMC, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional patient experiences across our physician practices, hospitals, and outpatient surgery departments. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team that is dedicated to providing top-notch care and service to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Patient Navigation: Help patients navigate the healthcare system by providing clear and understandable instructions, and ensuring that they have a smooth and seamless experience.
- Administrative Support: Assist with administrative duties in the office, including scanning medical records, faxing, and other tasks as needed.
- Technology Support: Guide patients through the use of self-arrival technology or check-in patients at the desk, depending on their preference.
- Scheduling and Coordination: Schedule or connect patients to resources to schedule for ancillary services at checkout.
- Service Recovery: Understand the principles of service recovery and take appropriate action to recover from service that does not meet the expectation of the UPMC Experience.
- Financial Education: Assist patients in education of financial responsibility and connect them to advocacy resources as needed.
- Consent and Verification: Obtain signature of patient or family member for consent to treatment and financial responsibility, following HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Insurance Verification: Confirm/verify insurance benefits with the appropriate carrier via online verification systems or telephone inquiries.
- Portal Promotion: Promote MyUPMC patient portal and assist patients in registration when applicable.
- Collections and Payments: Collect copayments and any other applicable patient payments at the point of service.
- Registration and Updates: Register patients in Biometrics (fingerprint recognition) program and explain benefits, and confirm and/or update patient registration information at checkout.
- Phone Triage: Appropriately distribute/triage phone calls to other areas and/or clinical providers.
- Follow-up Appointments: Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice at checkout.
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Experience: Two years of experience in a medical/billing/fiscal or customer service function preferred.
- Skills: Proficient typing skills and experience with personal computer-based applications and other office equipment preferred.
- Certifications and Clearances: Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting, Act 33, Act 34, Act 73 FBI Clearance, and UPMC's Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran policy.
