Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Specialist to join our team at AHN Neighborhood Hospital. As a Patient Access Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth processing of patient information and facilitating effective communication between patients, payers, and healthcare team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, including EMTALA, DNV, and HIPAA, to ensure accurate and secure handling of patient information.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by effectively meeting customer needs, understanding customer preferences, and building strong relationships.
  • Answer phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, record messages, and communicate with medical staff as needed.
  • Obtain and verify accurate demographic information from patients to facilitate efficient processing through the revenue cycle.
  • Verify insurance benefits for all plans associated with patients, confirming the correct payor and plan is entered into the patient accounting system.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations as required by individual insurance plans where applicable.
  • Maximize the efficiency and accuracy of the collection process by pursuing collections at the time of service in a customer service-oriented fashion.
  • Scan all registration and clinical documentation into the system and maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
  • Assist with coordinating patient transfers to other hospitals as needed.
  • Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
  • Maintain a clean and organized working environment, including the front desk, restroom, waiting room, break area, and patient rooms.
  • Receive and forward mail and packages to appropriate departments as needed.
  • Notify maintenance personnel of any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in company-sponsored training and development programs as required.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a healthcare setting required; 2 years preferred.
  • Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors required.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook) strongly preferred.
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral communication.
