Mental Health Specialist I

Nationwide Children's Hospital is seeking a skilled Mental Health Specialist I to join our team. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Clinical Support
- Participate in patient care activities, providing encouragement, support, and reinforcing positive behavior with a therapeutic approach.
- Identify and record relevant information for common diagnostic groups, including major depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorder, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, utilizing Trauma-Informed Care philosophies.
- Lead or co-lead teaching of symptom management, including relaxation techniques, anger management, and coping skills.
- Patient Care
- Collect, document, and report vital signs, temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
- Provide basic supportive care, including hygiene, bed making, nutrition, mobility, and elimination.
- Assist with urinary catheter insertion, peri-care, and skin care.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Education
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Students in a related field can apply after completing half of their undergraduate program.
- Experience
- One year of comparable experience in a hospital setting within the past three years.
- Skills
- Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Neat appearance, good grooming, and professional manner.
- CPR training (American Heart Association or Red Cross equivalent).
