About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Specialist I to join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to our pediatric patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Care: Provide Trauma Informed care to patients and families, including crisis intervention, symptom management, and therapeutic goal-setting.
  • Data Collection and Reporting: Collect, document, and report vital signs, temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, heights, weights, and abdominal girth.
  • Basic Supportive Care: Assist with hygiene, nutrition, mobility, elimination, and skin care, as well as provide basic skin care and apply NCH-approved over-the-counter skin products.
  • Procedures: Perform specimen collection, specimen testing, cast/traction/pin care, simple dressing changes, and assist with procedures such as IV insertion and lumbar puncture.
  • Environmental and Educational Responsibilities: Maintain a safe and clean environment, assist with unit-specific environmental duties, and participate in educational activities and in-services.
Requirements
  • Education: High school graduate or equivalent, or students in a related field with relevant coursework.
  • Experience: One year of comparable experience in a hospital setting, or completion of a related field program.
  • Skills: Good written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, as well as neat appearance and good grooming.
  • Certifications: CPR training (American Heart Association CPR for Family and Friends course or Health Care Provider course or Red Cross equivalent).
