Recruitment Overview

Job Responsibilities
The Engineer IV is responsible for executing challenging and intricate professional engineering tasks in the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and/or operation of specialized engineering initiatives. This role may also involve conducting research and development or other specialized engineering work aimed at enhancing, extending, or validating existing methods, data, or techniques, along with performing related duties as assigned.
The Engineer V oversees the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and/or operation of several major and complex engineering projects. This position may also entail independent work on advanced planning, design, or research projects that involve critical or unprecedented elements, along with performing related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Professional License:
A valid State of Hawaii Professional Engineer license is required at the time of application, as outlined in the Minimum Qualifications Requirements.

Basic Education:
A bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. Relevant substitutions may apply as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements.

Engineering Experience:
Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience for Level IV; and four (4) years for Level V. At least one (1) year of experience must be comparable to the next lower level.

Supervisory Aptitude Experience:
For Level V, applicants must demonstrate Supervisory Aptitude as detailed in the complete Minimum Qualification Requirements.

Driver's License:
Some positions may necessitate a valid driver's license.

Special Requirements:
Certain positions may require the ability to lift and carry items of various weights with or without reasonable accommodation.

Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Clearance
In accordance with Federal regulations, candidates considered for employment in positions requiring unescorted access to secured areas at the airport must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. To obtain SIDA clearance, candidates must not have been convicted of a disqualifying criminal offense within the past ten years from the application date.

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Clearance
Similar to SIDA clearance, candidates for positions requiring unescorted access to secured areas at the harbor must also undergo a fingerprint-based criminal history record check. To qualify for TWIC clearance, candidates must not have been convicted of a disqualifying criminal offense within seven years from the appointment date.
