OVERVIEW OF POSITION

In this pivotal role, reporting to the Discipline Manager or Engineering Manager, the Senior Geotechnical Engineering Specialist will oversee a specific discipline area while coordinating the technical expertise and services necessary for the successful execution of high-caliber engineering projects that align with both commercial and technical objectives. The individual will be instrumental in enhancing discipline work processes and providing technical governance within the field. Responsibilities will encompass studies, tenders, and active project management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

Deliver specialized skills, integrity, and knowledge in critical areas of project or discipline engineering, including design codes, legislative requirements, and contemporary engineering practices.
  • Comprehend client requirements; identify and resolve design parameters and challenges; develop and implement effective solutions.
  • Serve as a technical authority in all facets of offshore geotechnical engineering design and implementation.
  • Manage project interfaces, collaborating with various disciplines, drawing offices, document control, project management, clients, and suppliers.
  • Engage in conceptual studies.
  • Conduct geotechnical engineering calculations and prepare design reports for subsea foundation design, pipeline initiation anchorages, and pipeline/soil interaction.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of trenching equipment, including its applications and limitations.
  • Review and approve technical documentation, accepting personal accountability for its adequacy.
  • Identify and manage geotechnical risks effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
  • Actively participate in the training and development of engineers.
  • Propose innovative solutions to minimize costs and risks.
  • Evaluate, organize, and prioritize work for oneself and team members.

  • Support the establishment of standards and procedures for the Engineering Function.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
  • Professional qualifications - Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering with geotechnical expertise preferred. Relevant experience in a similar capacity will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant engineering experience in offshore geotechnical engineering design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with marine classification and local regulations (Essential).
  • Proven ability to operate within time and budget constraints.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor appropriate for the role.
  • Deliver work of high quality and presentation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and organize tasks effectively.
  • Utilize and reference applicable Codes and Standards related to geotechnical engineering in the offshore sector, such as ISO codes, DNV, API.
  • Proficient in foundation FEA analysis software, such as PLAXIS (Essential) or equivalent.
  • Understand and manage geotechnical and geohazard risks.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) designation or ability to obtain PE within six months.
