Job Overview

Thompson Engineering is seeking a qualified Senior or Professional level Geotechnical Engineer to join our team.

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will oversee a range of projects, both large and small, while supervising the technical work of staff and project engineers.

This role involves a variety of responsibilities related to geotechnical engineering, supporting transportation, heavy industrial, and infrastructure projects. Key tasks may include:

  • Conducting field investigations and performing engineering analyses, calculations, and recommendations.
  • Designing and developing plans and specifications, as well as observing and inspecting construction activities.
  • Preparing proposals and cost estimates, tracking project progress, and recommending necessary changes.
  • Researching and resolving design and construction challenges.
  • Reviewing laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports.
  • Applying sound engineering principles and effectively communicating complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing technical direction for the production and completion of both routine and complex projects.
  • Conceptualizing initial designs or investigative approaches for significant phases of large projects.
  • Planning, scheduling, and coordinating engineering work that may involve complex features and conflicting design requirements.
  • Reviewing projects that require innovative investigation techniques and supervising the analysis and formulation of recommendations in written reports.
  • Leading technical training and making informed decisions based on current technology trends.
  • Providing leadership in marketing, sales, and business development efforts.
  • Supervising less experienced engineers or technical support personnel on various projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program.
  • A minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Willingness to work flexible schedules and overtime as required.
  • Ability to operate a computer and sit for extended periods.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
