Position Overview

The Department of Biological Sciences at Columbia University is seeking applications for a Helpdesk support role at the level of Staff Associate II. This position involves providing essential technical assistance to the department's staff, faculty, and students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering comprehensive end-user support for all personnel within the Biology Department.
  • Installing necessary software and hardware; diagnosing and resolving technical issues as they arise.
  • Assisting in the maintenance and troubleshooting of departmental computing systems, including workstations, file servers, and web servers.
  • Supporting research teams with data backups and restoration processes.
  • Advising faculty, research staff, and graduate students on the acquisition and utilization of computer and peripheral equipment for laboratory settings.
  • Collaborating with the university's IT support team to address network, email, and other technical challenges.
  • Managing assigned projects within established timelines.
  • Documenting all support requests and resolutions for future reference.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as Computer Science or IT Support) is preferred.
  • Proficient troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in IT support, particularly in Help Desk roles (preferably Level 2 or higher). Experience in customer service or related areas is advantageous.
  • Ability to establish rapport with clients effectively.
  • Exhibit a positive and professional attitude.
  • Willingness to acquire new skills as necessary within a reasonable timeframe.
