Position Overview

Role: Customer Service and Safety Specialist

Location: Slabtown, Portland, OR

Starting Pay: $21.25

Job Summary:

This role involves engaging with community members and ensuring a welcoming environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong listening abilities and a commitment to making sure everyone feels acknowledged. This may occasionally involve navigating challenging discussions in a respectful and professional manner.

In line with the COVID-19 policy, full vaccination is required for employment in the specified regions, with certain exemptions applicable.

Reports To: Store Operations Manager

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a secure shopping environment by addressing safety concerns and situations affecting customers and staff.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service while fostering a collaborative team atmosphere.
  • Engage customers warmly, providing product information and assistance in locating items throughout the store.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and manage time effectively.
  • Uphold company values and work harmoniously with team members, customers, and vendors.
  • Provide and receive constructive feedback in alignment with company culture.
  • Adhere to work and food safety regulations established by the company and relevant authorities.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and inform management of any issues.

Position Duties:

  • Collaborate with store leadership to identify and manage safety and security challenges.
  • Act as a deterrent to theft, leaving apprehension duties to qualified personnel.
  • Monitor store activities to ensure a safe shopping experience.
  • Assist customers with product selection and share knowledge to enhance their shopping experience.
  • Ensure proper stocking and rotation of products, paying attention to quality and expiration dates.
  • Understand and comply with shift guidelines and responsibilities.
  • Stay informed about current promotions and events.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in customer service, retail, or grocery preferred.
  • Experience in security or safety-related fields is highly desirable.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of weights up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:

This position is situated in a grocery store setting, which may involve wet surfaces, moderate noise levels, and temperature variations. Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified applicants with disabilities.
