Position Overview:

This role functions as an external Equipment Rental Specialist for Hills Machinery Company. The individual in this position is responsible for managing customer transactions both via telephone and face-to-face. The Equipment Rental Specialist is essential in fostering customer satisfaction and optimizing equipment usage within the assigned trade region.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Foster and cultivate robust relationships with colleagues, including the Outside Sales Team and Product Support Staff.
  • Develop strong partnerships with clients, emphasizing long-term mutual growth and reliability.
  • Facilitate equipment rentals or coordinate service provisions for clients.
  • Conduct regular inspections on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Prepare rental agreements and contracts; secure client signatures and necessary information.
  • Maintain organized daily and monthly contract files.
  • Calculate charges based on rental or service rates.
  • Clarify rental fees and provide detailed information about rented equipment, including basic operational guidance.
  • Collect deposits or payments, and maintain a daily customer charge file while balancing sales receipts.
  • Handle incoming calls and process orders over the phone; maintain required call logs.
  • Advise clients on suitable equipment options that meet their specific needs, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Promote additional rental equipment that aligns with client applications.

    Serve as a knowledgeable resource regarding related equipment and services available in the local market.
  • Inquire about delivery conditions such as dock heights and narrow streets; promptly inform clients of any delivery delays.
  • Meet rental operational objectives, including accuracy in invoicing and completion of assigned training benchmarks.
  • Reserve equipment for requested periods and manage the rental reservation list.
  • Update and contact overdue accounts daily, notifying supervisors of overdue contracts.
  • Address and resolve client inquiries and invoicing discrepancies.
  • Stay informed about competitive pricing and market trends.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and regulations in both written and verbal forms.
  • Comply with safety regulations and report any safety violations to management.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma is required; a college degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of prior rental experience is preferred. Relevant work experience will also be considered.
  • A positive, solution-oriented mindset with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Ability to interact effectively with employees, management, and clients at all levels.
  • Familiarity with equipment, basic mechanics, and the local market is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn in-house computer systems with training.
  • Must effectively communicate equipment applications and key performance specifications.
  • Strong creativity and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the usage and application of all rental equipment and services offered.
  • Ability to differentiate between similar products and understand their respective advantages and disadvantages.
  • Knowledge of construction phases to provide accurate application advice.
  • Sales and customer relations skills are essential, with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High energy, self-motivation, and a strong work ethic are required.
  • A steadfast commitment to service excellence is essential.
Working Conditions:
  • The role requires the employee to work primarily in outdoor sales environments, facing various weather conditions.
  • Physical presence at job sites is necessary.
  • Personal protective equipment is required to mitigate exposure to hazards.
