POSITION TITLE: Senior Accountant

REPORTS TO: CFO LOCATION: Canonsburg, PA

DEPARTMENT: Accounting STATUS: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records and bank reconciliations, managing the general ledger, and executing month-end closing activities. This role requires a blend of strong analytical capabilities and a comprehensive understanding of accounting standards to evaluate financial statements and projections. The position necessitates effective communication and interpersonal skills, as it involves collaboration with management and operational teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Accountant will collaborate with the Accounting Manager and engage with both the accounting and finance teams, as well as other departmental personnel. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting account reconciliations to facilitate monthly, quarterly, and annual closing and reporting.
  • Gaining a thorough understanding of financial accounting processes and general ledger organization utilizing Syspro software.
  • Participating in periodic inventory counts.
  • Evaluating financial reports and documentation.
  • Overseeing journal entries from junior accountants to ensure precision.
  • Providing training and mentorship to junior staff and supervising clerical team members.
  • Executing variance analyses and preparing account reconciliations.
  • Managing daily banking operations.
  • Investigating the treatment of non-standard transactions and the application of GAAP.
  • Ensuring the reliability of accounting data by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
  • Preparing and documenting asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries through comprehensive account analysis.
  • Maintaining and reconciling subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Maintaining the general ledger, preparing trial balances, and generating related reports.
  • Summarizing financial conditions by gathering information and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
  • Facilitating external audits by analyzing and organizing general ledger accounts and supplying necessary information to auditors.
  • Documenting processes through flowcharts and narratives.
  • Assisting in budgeting, forecasting, and cash management activities.
  • Supporting the accounting team in special projects and identifying opportunities for workflow enhancements.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in financial accounting and reporting, preferably in a manufacturing context.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel, Access, and Word.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and SOX regulations.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to confidentiality.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BS Degree in Business with a focus on accounting.
  • Preference for candidates holding CPA or CMA certifications.
  • Experience with General Ledger and MRP systems in a manufacturing setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role requires regular sitting, frequent walking, and the use of hands for various tasks. Employees may occasionally need to lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
