Overview: The Puget Sound Educational Service District is looking for a dedicated Student Support Services Specialist to deliver prevention and early intervention programs to students. This role is crucial in addressing issues related to substance use, violence, and mental health within educational settings.

Role Purpose: The Student Support Services Specialist is responsible for executing and facilitating prevention and intervention strategies in collaboration with designated school districts, under the guidance of the Prevention Programs Supervisor and/or Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in formulating policies related to substance use at educational institutions to ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Participate in training sessions to enhance staff development and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Conduct early intervention programs for students at risk of substance abuse to promote health and academic readiness.
  • Coordinate with the student assistance team to identify at-risk students and connect them with appropriate services.
  • Develop and execute work plans tailored to the specific needs of each school site to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Establish a referral process for staff, students, and parents to facilitate access to substance abuse reduction strategies.
  • Create and implement prevention initiatives to foster a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Promote the agency's commitment to becoming an Antiracist Multicultural Organization, focusing on equity and inclusion.
  • Facilitate recovery support groups to assist students in overcoming substance-related challenges.
  • Maintain confidential records and compile data to meet funding and best practice requirements.
  • Engage in meetings and workshops to share and gather essential information for job performance.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through active participation in program assessments.
  • Deliver presentations on program components to students and educators to promote resources that support health and learning.
  • Provide screening and referral information to students and families to enhance intervention support.
  • Offer individual and family counseling services within the framework of student assistance.
  • Conduct awareness programs for the school community to mitigate substance abuse and promote well-being.
  • Deliver training sessions on various relevant topics to enhance staff knowledge and skills in prevention and intervention.

Qualifications:

  • AA degree or higher in Social Services, Human Services, Counseling, or a related field; or a SUDP, SUDP/T, or High School Diploma/GED with relevant experience.
  • Experience in youth-serving programs with a focus on prevention and early intervention.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Experience with school-based assistance programs or youth educational support groups.
  • Experience collaborating with community coalitions.
  • Presentation skills are essential.
