Emergency Care Support Specialist at Swedish Health Services

Shift: Night Shift
Work Schedule: 12 Hour Shifts
The Emergency Care Support Specialist plays a vital role in assisting the Emergency Department (ED) Nursing and Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) teams by executing tasks that facilitate the care and treatment of patients facing various health challenges. This position acts as a crucial link among healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP).
- Anticipate the needs of LIP, RN, and patients.
- Conduct basic patient care tasks including monitoring vital signs, assisting with hygiene, and facilitating mobility.
- Prepare equipment and supplies for medical procedures.
- Execute approved orthopedic procedures such as applying plaster splints and other orthopedic devices.
- Administer basic first aid and wound care, including irrigation and dressing applications.
- Monitor patients and report significant changes in their condition to the appropriate team member.
- Connect patients to monitoring equipment and perform 12 lead ECGs, recognizing critical arrhythmias.
- Communicate effectively with all caregivers regarding patient care and equipment issues.
- Engage compassionately with patients, families, and visitors, providing support to enhance patient care.
- Conduct specimen collection and clinical testing, including blood glucose checks using a glucometer.
- Document patient data accurately using electronic medical records (EMR) and ensure confidentiality.
- Manage inventory and restock supplies and emergency equipment as necessary.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, including transportation via wheelchair and stretcher.
- Facilitate patient education related to treatment plans.
- Participate in de-escalation techniques and monitoring of restraints when necessary.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Washington Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification upon hire
- Washington Nursing Assistant Certification License or Washington Nursing Assistant Registered upon hire
- National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire
Preferred:
- Training in orthopedic technology
- Two years of EMT experience or two years in an Emergency Department setting
