Role Overview
In the capacity of Head of Applied Science for Growth Strategies, you will lead our AI-centric growth initiatives. You will manage a team of Applied Scientists, collaborating across departments to devise and execute innovative strategies that propel Thumbtack's expansion and improve user engagement. This position provides a unique chance to create solutions that serve both service providers and customers, enhancing the marketplace for all stakeholders. You will also influence outcomes through the use of generative AI technologies to develop groundbreaking growth solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Mentor and guide a team of Applied Scientists, promoting a culture of creativity and ongoing development. Create and deploy sophisticated machine learning models and AI algorithms to enhance user acquisition, engagement, and retention strategies for both service providers and clients. Work alongside product, marketing, and operations teams to pinpoint significant growth opportunities. Design and manage AI-driven experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of growth strategies and support data-driven decision-making. Oversee the creation of predictive models for user behavior, market trends, and business performance. Foster innovation in areas such as personalized recommendations, matching algorithms, and automated interactions to improve Thumbtack's services for both professionals and clients. Investigate and implement generative AI solutions to uncover new growth pathways and enhance user experiences. Establish best practices for AI and ensure ethical development across growth strategies. Stay informed about advancements in applied science and AI pertinent to marketplace dynamics and user behavior forecasting. Present findings and recommendations to executive leadership to guide strategic choices.Qualifications:

Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related discipline. 8+ years of experience in applied science roles, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity. Strong expertise in machine learning, AI, and causal inference in marketing and growth. Proven experience in leveraging AI to drive business growth within a technology company. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala. Understanding of generative AI applications and their potential to stimulate growth. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex AI concepts to non-technical audiences.-
