CLASS TITLE: COMMUNITY SCHOOL SPECIALIST

The Redwood City School District is dedicated to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment for all students and their families. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the Community School Coordinator in managing non-academic activities for students and families, which encompass family support services, mental health initiatives, after-school programs, and recreational opportunities.
  2. Collaborate with local agencies and non-profit organizations to create partnerships that provide essential resources and support to families, addressing their evolving needs.
  3. Work closely with school leadership to align non-academic services with educational priorities, ensuring accessibility for parents and community members.
  4. Provide guidance and referrals to families regarding community programs and services, promoting self-sufficiency and independence.
  5. Act as a liaison among the District, families, and community resources to resolve student-related issues and conflicts.
  6. Conduct home visits to engage with families, monitor progress, and adjust services as necessary.
  7. Develop and implement service plans for families, ensuring they have access to appropriate resources and support.
  8. Assist families in navigating various challenges, including health, nutrition, housing, and parenting.
  9. Maintain accurate records and reports related to family services and referrals, ensuring compliance with District policies.
  10. Participate in meetings and training sessions to enhance service delivery and support for families.
  11. Translate communications for families with limited English proficiency, ensuring they receive necessary information.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful candidates will possess a high school diploma and two years of experience in a social services or educational setting, demonstrating a strong understanding of family support systems and community resources.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with families and community partners.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in operating office equipment and software.

LICENSES:

A valid California driver's license is required. Some positions may require proficiency in a second language.
