CLASS TITLE: COMMUNITY SCHOOL SPECIALIST

The Redwood City School District is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students and their families. Under the supervision of the Community School Coordinator, the Community School Specialist will:

  • Provide essential guidance, support, and referrals to families regarding district and community resources.
  • Act as a vital link between the district, families, and community organizations to address student-related challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in coordinating various non-academic activities for students and families, including mental health services and after-school programs.
  • Collaborate with community partners to create opportunities that cater to the evolving needs of students and families.
  • Work closely with school leadership to align non-academic services with educational priorities and improve accessibility for families.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to families in navigating community programs related to childcare, health, and other essential services.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with families, ensuring their needs are met through tailored educational and support initiatives.
  • Manage a designated caseload, developing service plans and facilitating access to community resources.
  • Compile and maintain accurate records and reports related to family services and referrals.
  • Engage with various stakeholders to resolve issues and enhance support systems for families.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions to continuously improve service delivery.
  • Translate communications for families with limited English proficiency as needed.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Understanding of family support principles and community resources for at-risk populations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with diverse families.
  • Proficiency in modern office practices and technology.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: high school graduation and two years of experience in a social services or educational setting.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California driver's license. Some positions may require proficiency in a second language.
