Job Objective:

To provide expert echocardiography services across diverse patient demographics within the Cardiology department. This role involves conducting advanced echocardiographic assessments, including transesophageal stress echocardiography, as required. Cross-training in EKG performance and documentation may be included.

Qualifications:

Education: Required: Completion of an accredited program in Echocardiography or a related field, such as an associate's degree or higher in cardiovascular sonography.

Licensure/Certification: Required: Successful completion of the Echocardiography Registry Exam with RDCS, RCS, or RVT certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI); American Heart Association BLS certification.

Experience: Required: Minimum of two (2) years in a cardiovascular ultrasound environment. Preferred: Experience with structural heart procedures.

Essential Responsibilities:

Adheres to the Code of Conduct and compliance policies, proactively addressing compliance inquiries and reporting any suspected violations. Provides echocardiographic studies in both inpatient and outpatient settings as necessary. May be required to be on-call. Conducts structural heart studies in collaboration with physicians. Independently performs echocardiographic exams for pediatric and neonatal patients. Mentors and trains both new and existing staff on pediatric and structural heart protocols. Acts as a resource for echocardiography students.

Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures, which includes taking vital signs, positioning, and explaining the process while reviewing their medical history. Coordinates with pacing technicians to obtain AV Optimization results. Executes comprehensive echocardiography studies (2-D, M-Mode, Color Flow, Spectral Doppler, Transesophageal, Stress Echo utilizing Definity and Bubble Study) on all patient demographics, ensuring high technical quality and accuracy in accordance with established policies and procedures. Minimizes the necessity for re-examinations and confirms any skin allergies reported by patients.

Analyzes and organizes data, performing necessary calculations promptly and accurately. Gathers relevant medical information from patient records and interviews, verifying physician orders. Compiles preliminary interpretations and presents results to physicians in a timely manner for their assessment. Documents and processes procedures accurately and promptly after imaging to reduce delays for the reading physician. Ensures patient comfort and provides assistance as needed.

Supports the department during downtime by handling administrative tasks such as answering phones, photocopying records, faxing, and distributing correspondence. Assists physicians with patient transport willingly. Engages in activities that promote professional and departmental growth. Prepares the examination room and equipment for echocardiography studies, maintaining a clean work environment. Processes billing charges or credits by the end of each shift in accordance with policies. Ensures equipment is clean, well-stocked, and in good working order after each shift. Participates in departmental performance improvement and quality assessment initiatives. Reports any unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate personnel and takes necessary actions for resolution. Performs additional duties as assigned.
