Overview: Our client is in search of an Automation Engineer to support their operations in a contract role. This position involves working within a dynamic environment, focusing on automation and electrical systems crucial for onshore oil and gas production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and troubleshoot a diverse range of automation and electrical systems related to upstream oil and gas operations.
- Provide essential on-site automation assistance for production activities.
- Act as a technical expert for facility control systems and field instrumentation, including various measurement instruments.
- Ensure all maintenance tasks adhere to industry standards and corporate guidelines.
- Implement PLC programming standards and manage changes effectively.
- Identify and analyze issues within instrumentation and control systems to propose improvements.
- Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to streamline maintenance operations.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Instrumentation or Automation technology with a minimum GPA of 2.5, or equivalent practical experience with a strong safety record.
- At least 3 years of experience in a similar role as an Automation Engineer.
- Minimum of 3 years working in the Oil Field sector.
- In-depth knowledge of Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) design, programming, and troubleshooting.
- Proficient in analog and discrete instrumentation, as well as various communication protocols.
- Strong understanding of technical standards and guidelines relevant to the industry.
- Intermediate skills in maintaining PLC programs and local Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and participate in an on-call rotation.
- Ability to travel to various job sites as required.
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Proficient in MS Office applications and Windows Operating Systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Automation with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- 7+ years of experience in the Oil Field industry.
- 3+ years of experience in upstream oil and gas automation.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley and Rosemount systems.
- Able to interpret Cause & Effects, P&ID diagrams, and control narratives.
- Intermediate troubleshooting skills for control networks in various settings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with diverse teams.
- Ability to foster collaborative relationships across different organizational levels.
- Open to new ideas and capable of influencing positive outcomes.
