About the Role:
The Oncology Translational Research (OTR) team at Novartis is in search of a driven professional to take on the role of lab head, focusing on the exploration of mechanisms behind the effectiveness and resistance to innovative cancer treatments. Collaborating closely with our early clinical, drug discovery, and data science divisions, you will lead a team responsible for designing and executing translational studies aimed at uncovering both intrinsic and acquired resistance mechanisms through preclinical trials and clinical samples. The findings will inform patient stratification and guide the development and evaluation of new therapeutic approaches to enhance patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize preclinical models and clinical samples to investigate resistance mechanisms to novel therapies.
  • Design and conduct translational studies, including target screening and testing of new drug combinations or next-generation strategies to address resistance.
  • Lead a research team and foster collaborations across the oncology sector at Novartis.
  • Oversee, mentor, and train junior team members.

Compensation and Benefits:

The anticipated salary range for this position is between $112,800 and $169,200 annually. This range is subject to adjustments based on market conditions. Final compensation will consider various factors, including geographical location, experience, and skill set. The total compensation package may also encompass additional elements such as sign-on bonuses, stock options, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, financial, and paid time off benefits.

Essential Qualifications:

  • This is a dual posting. The final level and title will be determined by the hiring team based on the candidate's skills and experience:
    • Principal Scientist I: Requires a Postdoctoral fellowship or 3 years of relevant experience in academia or industry.
    • Principal Scientist II: Requires a Postdoctoral fellowship plus 2 years of industry experience post-PhD.
  • Ph.D. in molecular, cellular, cancer biology, or related disciplines.
  • Strong creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Passion for scientific collaboration and teamwork.
  • Positive mindset, scientific curiosity, and commitment.
  • In-depth knowledge of cancer cell biology and familiarity with advanced cell and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience in studying responses and resistance to small molecule, biologic, or immune oncology therapies.
  • A commitment to collaborative work, managing research teams, and effectively communicating scientific findings.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in data mining and computational analysis.
