Internal Title: Research Scientist I/II - Lab Technician

About the Role:

The Oncology Pharmacology team at Novartis is looking for a research associate skilled in in vivo methodologies involving rodents to join our innovative group. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the advancement and evaluation of new therapeutic agents and biological targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a variety of in vivo experiments in rodents (primarily mice), including dosing (IV, IP, SQ, PO), monitoring body weight, performing clinical observations, collecting samples/tissues, conducting necropsies, and executing blood collection (cardiac, tail vein, saphenous), while strictly following all standard operating procedures (SOPs), animal welfare guidelines, and regulatory standards.
  • Support in vivo pharmacology pre-study laboratory tasks and associated ex vivo activities as necessary (preparing and labeling materials, managing orders, organizing reagent inventories, processing samples, etc.).
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring data integrity and adhering to deadlines.
  • Uphold a safe laboratory environment and comply with relevant safety regulations in a BSL 1 and/or 2 setting.
  • Ensure adherence to all internal and external regulatory requirements in line with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is anticipated to be between $69,300 - $103,900 annually for the Research Scientist I - Lab Technician and $84,000 - $126,000 for the Research Scientist II - Lab Technician. Salary adjustments may occur based on market conditions and individual qualifications. The total compensation package may also include additional components such as sign-on bonuses, stock options, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Essential Qualifications:

  • This is a dual-level posting. The final designation will be determined by the hiring team based on the candidate's skills and experience.
  • Research Scientist I - Lab Technician: Requires a GED or High School diploma with a 2-year degree in Veterinary Technology, or a 4-year Science degree with at least 1 year of relevant experience. Must demonstrate proficiency in in vivo procedures with rodents.
  • Research Scientist II - Lab Technician: Requires a GED or High School diploma with a 2-year degree in Veterinary Technology, or a 4-year Science degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Must demonstrate advanced proficiency in in vivo procedures with rodents.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Attention to detail and a meticulous approach to laboratory work, including adherence to protocols and thorough documentation.
  • Knowledge of animal welfare regulations and a commitment to ethical research practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and professionalism.
  • Physical capability to perform in vivo work and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook is required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with cancer models and in vivo pharmacokinetic evaluations is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in a Contract Research Organization (CRO) is a plus.
