Job Title: Chief Compliance Standards and Risk Officer

ATF is a law enforcement agency in the U.S. Department of Justice that protects our communities from violent criminals and criminal organizations, illegal use and trafficking of firearms, illegal use and storage of explosives, acts of arson and bombings, acts of terrorism, and illegal diversion of alcohol and tobacco products.

We partner with communities, industries, law enforcement, and public safety agencies to safeguard the public through information sharing, training, research, and technology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a proactive internal compliance and risk assessment program for a law enforcement or regulatory agency.
  • Measure, monitor, and mitigate operational risks for a law enforcement or regulatory agency, including employee or structural compliance with internal policies and procedures, agency compliance with departmental standards and procedures, agency compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and adequacy of agency internal controls.
  • Manage an internal inspection program focused on policy compliance and risk management and provide senior agency leadership with comprehensive risk assessments, risk mitigation strategies, and risk management practices.
  • Provide executive-level input on the development, formulation, and implementation of agency policies and procedures for the accomplishment of organizational mission and provide organization-wide technical advice, guidance, and interpretation of agency compliance and risk policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate on compliance and risk issues at both the intra-departmental level and with other Federal, territorial, tribal, state, and local regulatory and law enforcement officials and manage agency interaction with, and formulate responses to, departmental and external audits.
Requirements:
  • Experience creating, staffing, implementing, and effectively maintaining a proactive internal compliance and risk assessment program for a law enforcement or regulatory agency.
  • Experience measuring, monitoring, and mitigating operational risks for a law enforcement or regulatory agency, including employee or structural compliance with internal policies and procedures, agency compliance with departmental standards and procedures, agency compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and adequacy of agency internal controls.
  • Experience managing an internal inspection program focused on policy compliance and risk management and providing senior agency leadership with comprehensive risk assessments, risk mitigation strategies, and risk management practices.
  • Experience providing executive-level input on the development, formulation, and implementation of agency policies and procedures for the accomplishment of organizational mission and providing organization-wide technical advice, guidance, and interpretation of agency compliance and risk policies and procedures.
  • Experience coordinating on compliance and risk issues at both the intra-departmental level and with other Federal, territorial, tribal, state, and local regulatory and law enforcement officials and managing agency interaction with, and formulating responses to, departmental and external audits.
