Job Title:
Power Systems Engineer

Job Overview:
The Power Systems Engineer within the Projects Division is tasked with managing the array of projects allocated to the team. This position guarantees that each initiative complies with regulatory standards, corporate guidelines, and maintains uniformity.

The Power Systems Engineer will report directly to the Unit Manager and collaborate closely with cross-functional project teams to fulfill project requirements as directed by the Project Manager and Unit Manager.


Core Responsibilities:


Conducts engineering evaluations of the electric substation and transmission network and proposes actions to formulate design alternatives or recommendations for significant substations and transmission construction initiatives.

Develops engineering conceptual designs for substations and transmission line projects within Utilities.

Engages in detailed design, executing engineering reviews, calculations, and/or suggesting drawings or system enhancements, in accordance with standards or international codes.

Initiates electric system and component reliability assessments and outage contingency strategies.
Creates BID Forms for engineering services and/or PayCU's for Construction services, adhering to the company's procurement policies.
Ensures timely issuance of all electrical documentation. Gathers and validates information necessary for engineering evaluations and applies engineering judgment to resolve intricate technical challenges.
Analyzes and evaluates complex transmission systems across various voltage levels.
Documents and conveys results and recommendations as appropriate, including data manipulation, report writing, and summary presentations.

Supervises quality aspects of engineering, including adherence to design standards and accuracy of documentation, field analysis and reporting, and test data.

Leads collaborative analysis and review of projects, studies, and best practices with Engineering colleagues.
Effectively manages external engineering partners. Ensures project risks are identified, understood, and addressed promptly.
Participates in substation site inspections and project meetings as necessary.
Directs engineering contractors and consultants. Ensures effective communication with other engineering disciplines, project management, and client teams.
Implements innovative technology to enhance power system performance when required.
Provides power system commissioning support and supervision when necessary.
Offers engineering assistance during construction and testing and commissioning phases when required.

Required Qualifications:

Experience and Education:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
3-5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering and design for utilities.
Proficiency in CAD Drafting, PLS-CADD Modeling, and other Engineering tools.
Knowledge of Construction and Outage Sequencing.
Familiarity with Industry Codes, Standards, and Regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of Electric substations and transmission systems planning, operations, and/or protection.
Experience in running and analyzing electric power load flows.
Knowledge of FERC and state regulations.
Experience utilizing AutoCAD and other Engineering tools.
Experience collaborating with contractors.
