Field Service Engineer – Rochester NY

Role Summary:

The Field Service Engineer will provide essential aftermarket support for our Electronic Instruments utilized in the electric utility and industrial sectors.

This role involves delivering technical assistance to customers regarding the application and operation of our products.

Additionally, the engineer will resolve technical issues related to assigned products both on-site and remotely by executing repairs, calibrations, and maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver technical support for Power Instruments products through various communication channels including phone, email, and on-site visits.
  • Set up and evaluate products to replicate and confirm customer-reported issues.
  • Document product defects and collaborate with product management, engineering, and customers.
  • Provide customers with estimates for spare parts, repairs, upgrades, field service, and training.
  • Travel to customer locations to perform installations, commissioning, and training on all products.
  • Generate comprehensive field service reports.
  • Create training materials for assigned products.
  • Process and analyze Return Material Authorizations (RMAs) and furnish customers with detailed findings.
  • Repair and calibrate equipment as necessary.
  • Assist sales and product management teams with customer presentations and demonstrations.
  • Support the sales application team with technical specification reviews and product quote generation.
  • Manage spare parts and field service orders.
  • Perform other service-related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Electronics with 3-5 years of experience in servicing industrial electric equipment, including troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in trigonometry and algebra for problem-solving.
  • Able to read and interpret schematic diagrams.
  • Familiarity with various communication protocols such as Ethernet, RS-232, RS-485, and Dial-up Modem.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel for data analysis and formula writing.
  • Capable of configuring PC hardware/software for Ethernet and Serial communication.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong desire to learn and understand technical systems.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision required.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
