Apex Systems is in search of a Senior Controls Engineer to support our client specializing in the design, production, and integration of tailored automation solutions. This role is a permanent/direct hire opportunity. Our client operates across various sectors including Medical, Security, Aerospace, Automotive, Hi-Tech, and Plastics.
The Senior Controls Engineer will engage in essential functions such as process management, diagnostics, motion control, and robotics, ensuring optimal performance of custom automation solutions and machinery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a diverse engineering team to create bespoke automation machinery within the medical device and biotechnology sectors.
- Convert client specifications into design requirements, assess design viability, and offer technical insights to fulfill client needs.
- Develop programming for PLCs, safety systems, and design the HMI interface.
- Identify and program motors, drives, actuators, robots, vision systems, sensors, and servo controls.
- Oversee comprehensive system programming, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, installation, service, and upgrades.
- Execute complete electrical designs, producing professional electrical schematics and panel layouts.
- Establish and maintain precise bills of materials for accuracy (quantities, part numbers, etc.).
- Draft technical manuals for manufacturing teams and clients.
- Stay informed about cutting-edge technology advancements.
- Contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
- Your contributions will enhance equipment across various industries, including medical, automotive, packaging, hi-tech, security, and manufacturing.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated programming expertise in PLCs, HMI interfaces, and safety systems, with core platforms including Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, and Siemens, along with other platforms like B&R and Beckhoff.
- A system-level perspective on complete machine programming with a strong emphasis on recovery processes.
- Experience in robotics, automation systems, vision systems, proximity and photo sensors, and servo controls.
- Proficient in PC operations, networking, device communications, integration, and design.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical.
- Thorough understanding of electrical component selection and panel layout design, including materials, safety, and labeling practices.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with clients and team members. Ability to clearly present information and respond to inquiries from employees, management, clients, and the public.
- The candidate must be capable of exploring various hardware and software options to keep machine designs aligned with evolving technology.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, motion, and assembly processes.
Education:
- BSEE or BSEET with a minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation and controls development and commissioning.
- ASEE or ASEET with at least 10 years of experience in industrial automation and controls development and commissioning.
- Candidates with alternative degrees and relevant experience will also be considered (e.g., Associate's in Engineering Robotics and Automation Controls or Associate's Degree in Electronics).
