Position Overview


Northern Impact, a leading multidisciplinary design firm, is on the lookout for a skilled Electrical Engineer to enhance our dynamic team.

This position demands exceptional time management, communication, and technical expertise as you collaborate closely with our internal project teams and external consultants.


Our firm operates 12 offices globally, focusing on diverse sectors including healthcare, arts and culture, community development, corporate projects, education, and government initiatives.

Key Responsibilities


- Evaluate project requirements, decompose projects into manageable tasks, and collaborate with the design team to define scope, budget, and staffing needs.

- Draft scopes of work for electrical design based on initial assessments and discussions with clients.

- Conduct engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems while analyzing the performance of existing systems.

- Clearly and effectively present complex engineering analyses to owners and design teams.

- Document existing conditions and execute detailed troubleshooting for complex issues.

- Address a variety of intricate challenges, including conflicting design requirements, code compliance issues, and varying design options.

- Investigate non-routine code matters and obtain interpretations from relevant code officials.

- Create sketches and system schematics for intricate design tasks, such as electrical room layouts.

- Prepare engineering opinions regarding probable costs for electrical systems and review contractor cost estimates.

- Perform calculations using engineering principles for electrical designs, including whole building electrical loads, lighting calculations, power distribution, equipment sizing, and specification editing.

- Generate addenda and change orders, and initiate additional service requests for client submission.

- Review drawings and documents to ensure compliance with company design and production standards.

- Ensure that all drawings and designs adhere to established design standards.

- Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of construction processes and delivery methods.

- Contribute to the education and development of design staff, serving as a resource for inquiries.

Qualifications


Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 8-12 years of experience in designing lighting, power, and communication systems for healthcare, commercial, and/or educational projects
  • Professional licensure, or the ability to obtain licensure
  • Documented experience with a consulting engineering firm or A/E firm providing electrical design
  • Knowledge of current technologies relevant to IES, IECC, LEED, and ASHRAE requirements, along with familiarity with applicable codes (city, state, federal) and National Fire Protection Association/National Electrical Code (NFPA/NEC) Standards
  • Proficiency in Revit software and excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with electrical analysis software (e.g., SKM, Easy Power) and knowledge of current sustainable technologies applicable to commercial electrical system design
