Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Specimen Management Technician to join our team at the University of Virginia. As a key member of our laboratory operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth receipt and processing of specimens for analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Specimen Receipt and Processing: Receive and process specimens for laboratory analysis, ensuring all specimens meet acceptance criteria.
  • Computer System Management: Enter written and receive electronic orders for laboratory requests into our computer system.
  • Problem-Solving and Quality Assurance: Investigate and resolve problems or complaints, and demonstrate knowledge of quality, safety, and compliance programs.
  • Training and Development: Serve as a trainer and role model for new Specimen Management Technicians and healthcare professional students.
  • Support Activities: Perform area-specific support activities and assist with other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Experience: No experience required
  • Licensure: None required
Physical Demands

The job requires sitting, standing for prolonged periods, frequent travel, and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are required, as well as attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, heat, cold, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
