Contract and Procurement Attorney

Job Summary:
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is seeking a skilled Contract and Procurement Attorney to join our team in the Office of General Counsel. As a key member of our team, you will provide legal counsel to the TEA and support the agency's commitment to strong and efficient compliance with contracting and procurement processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support to the agency's Contracts and Purchasing Division and other agency divisions by reviewing, drafting, revising, and negotiating contractual provisions and researching applicable statutes, rules, and regulations.
- Interpret executed contracts and advise TEA staff on TEA's rights and obligations.
- Represent the agency during contract negotiations.
- Perform legal work involving the agency's trademark and copyright matters.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and graduation from an accredited law school with a JD or LLB degree.
- Must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as an attorney; preferably including some involvement with contract formation and interpretation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience providing legal support to a Texas state agency on contracts and procurement issues.
- Experience in intellectual property matters; experience with Creative Commons is a plus.
