Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team at the DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION RESOURCES. As a key member of our Office of the General Counsel, you will play a critical role in providing legal support and guidance to our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review contracts, including technology contracts and license agreements, to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Assist with contract negotiations with vendors and provide advice and counsel to staff on contract management.
  • Research and analyze legal issues and provide guidance on the application of laws and regulations that affect our agency.
  • Prepare and review legal documents, including contracts, rules, and regulations, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide advice and counsel to staff on ethical issues and guidelines, and conduct investigations and prepare written reports as necessary.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited law school with an LL.B. or J.D. degree and licensure to practice law in the state of Texas.
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience as a practicing and licensed attorney, with a minimum of one to two years of experience providing legal support or working with contracting and procurement functions.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in the use of a computer and applicable software necessary to perform work assignments.
Working Conditions

This is a regular, full-time position with a standard 40-hour workweek. Occasional travel and overtime may be required.
