Position Overview:

The Lead Officer for Grant Programs plays a pivotal role in advancing the strategic focus on community wealth enhancement through effective grant management and community engagement.

The Community Wealth Enhancement strategy aims to cultivate local resources of knowledge, funding, workforce, entrepreneurship, and investment within communities, ensuring these vital assets remain accessible locally.

This role involves the assessment and evaluation of grant applications, crafting funding recommendations, overseeing grant effectiveness, and nurturing relationships with grantees and the community to foster shared accountability, ensuring alignment with the Foundation's mission, strategic objectives, and annual plans.

The Lead Officer identifies viable programs and community advocates who can sustain initiatives post-funding.

This position necessitates collaboration with colleagues, peers in philanthropy, and partners such as public funding entities, actively seeking opportunities to enhance the Foundation's grantmaking practices in alignment with its mission, vision, and strategies.


Key Responsibilities:

Grant Management – Oversees a portfolio of grants to advance the foundation's strategic goals related to the five pillars of Community Wealth Enhancement.

– Evaluates and analyzes grant applications.

– Gathers and synthesizes supplementary data and insights regarding proposals through site visits, interviews, financial assessments, and other methods as necessary.

– Prepares funding recommendations for staff and Board review. – Communicates funding outcomes to grant applicants.

– Monitors the performance and impact of assigned grants and collaborates with internal teams to ensure cohesive programming and alignment with the Foundation's mission, vision, and strategies.

– Acts as the primary liaison for assigned grantees and cultivates relationships with grantees and the community to promote shared accountability to the Foundation's mission, vision, and strategies.

Community Engagement – Identifies and engages in opportunities within communities to promote planning and development that aligns with Community Wealth Enhancement principles.

– Shares expertise from the portfolio with stakeholders and media when appropriate. Represents the Foundation at conferences and community events, occasionally taking on speaking roles as suitable. – Identifies viable programs and community leaders who can advocate for initiatives after funding. – Develops and implements strategies to connect with community leaders and influencers. – Strengthens and expands relationships and partnerships within communities. – Facilitates coalition building to support systemic change initiatives. 3.

Ongoing Quality Improvement – Monitors, assesses, and reports on the progress of grantee organizations, the impacts of grants, and integrates insights into program activities for ongoing quality enhancement.

– Maintains accurate records of interactions with grantees in the grants management database.

– Collaborates with others in the philanthropy sector and public funders to advance the Foundation's mission and strategies.

– Remains adaptable and open to innovative approaches for working with communities, organizations, and other funders. – Works collaboratively across the Foundation's functions and seeks opportunities for strategic program integration. – Stays informed on best practices and developments within the field.
