Position Summary:

Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Vice President of Finance will oversee all financial, human resources, and IT functions within the organization. The responsibilities of the Vice President include managing cash flow strategies, directing the creation of current financial reports and summaries, and developing forecasts to predict future growth. To excel in this role, the candidate should possess comprehensive knowledge of risk management techniques and the capability to create forecasting models in collaboration with senior leadership. The ideal candidate should also be mission-driven and recognize how their contributions are vital to the organization’s objectives.

Key Responsibilities:Financial Oversight
  • Directs the preparation of all financial documents, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax filings, and governmental agency submissions.
  • Analyzes actual outcomes against forecasts and budgets, making necessary adjustments.
  • Collaborates with department heads and stakeholders to formulate annual departmental budgets.
  • Ensures compliance of all financial operations with federal and state regulations.
  • Supervises annual audits and necessary filings.
  • Works alongside the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other executives to coordinate strategic planning and establish priorities.
  • Manages fund investments and collaborates with investment bankers to secure additional capital for growth.
  • Forecasts returns on investment for existing and prospective programs.
  • Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) and analyzes trends.
  • Oversees payroll processing.
  • Manages financial requirements for grants.
  • Develops and oversees financial strategies for capital campaigns in conjunction with fundraising and construction management.
  • Represents the organization to investors and public officials.
  • Supervises accounting functions, budget preparation, and audit processes.
Organizational Development
  • Evaluates financial processes and systems, providing recommendations and implementing enhancements.
  • Reviews planning methodologies and proposes improvements to current practices.
  • Analyzes long-term economic trends and their potential impact on future growth.
  • Identifies opportunities for expansion into new program areas.
  • Collaborates with other department heads to monitor departmental performance and provide recommendations.
Leadership
  • Leads a small team of finance and gifts processing professionals.
  • May oversee human resources personnel and compensation/benefits packages.
  • May manage IT contractors and staff.

  • Proficient in database and accounting software systems (e.g., NetSuite).

Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance—or equivalent experience—required.
  • Eight to ten years of experience in financial management required.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector preferred.
